00:00so I'm back from the BC honey producers
00:02Association now this weekend I was out
00:04there and I spoke a few times to the
00:07crowd had a great time that a lot of
00:10people made some interesting connections
00:12as I do more of this I seem to run into
00:16a lot of the same people and I'm
00:19starting to see the network of
00:21beekeepers out there and new beekeepers
00:25and just some excitement and you know
00:28ambition and ideas so it's really neat
00:32connecting with these guys anyways I
00:35know I'm back that farm is combining
00:39soybeans I'm gonna be called out to the
00:41combines tomorrow we're gonna be
00:43chopping silage so I'll be packing
00:45silage tomorrow and I have Kerry going
00:47out to do some feeding so we're gonna
00:49have two nice days here and then the
00:51prediction of snow so snow is a whip
00:54Snow's got us busy so we are trying to
00:57get as much done as we can before we get
00:59possibly a foot of snow dropped on us
01:02I'm just going through and doing some
01:04washes haven't done any washes yet but I
01:07just want to see as as nest finishes
01:10emerging I just want to see where this
01:12might level is just to make sure I don't
01:14get caught off guard because I'm running
01:17out of time if I have to do something
01:19about it we'll be running oxalic acid
01:22next week if we're not stuck in snow
01:25what they'll be getting a vapor
01:27treatment just before we bring him
01:29inside anyways that's gonna scale some
01:31hives but you know BC is not that far
01:36away is but it's two hours and I'm still
01:38working on a bit of jet lag so I left
01:41the scale back in the honey house so off
01:43to go back and get that after I get
01:45closer to home anyways we've got to get
01:48these hives fed up because that threat
01:52of snow just keeps coming at us winter
01:54is near
02:50why
02:55why
02:59why
03:05why
03:08box it's 95 pounds
03:14like one
03:22why
03:34what
03:38why
03:40what
03:46you guys are $95
04:00[Music]
04:11why
04:14why
04:15[Music]
04:16why
06:00I'm gonna give these guys a better shake
06:02tonight but there's only one might in
06:06here so I'm thinking there's roughly 100
06:08or 200 bees so that's good these nests I
06:12pretty much set up for winter and I
06:16should be seeing an increase in mite
06:18counts if there's any type of problem so
06:22these hives are scaling 95 to 105 pounds
06:26so they're fed right up so a little bit
06:29heavier than I anticipated they were so
06:31that is really good I'm still putting
06:33out a gallon a pail just to satisfy the
06:37big ones those ones sitting about 95
06:41pounds or like a box of bees and I mean
06:45I imagine there's more brood in there
06:47when I started feeding heavy a few weeks
06:49ago and the brood has emerged and now
06:52there's open space and they could take
06:56on just a little bit I don't want these
06:57great big hives to fall short
07:00I might feed a little bit heavier than a
07:03lot of people do but what I do is I just
07:06feed them right to hell up and you know
07:09I'm looking at five five and a half
07:11months of winter here so there's gonna
07:13give them lots of opportunity to open up
07:15that middle the nest to be able to
07:17create some room for winter brood later
07:18on and if there's still a little bit too
07:22heavy in the spring that's not a problem
07:24whatsoever all I do is pull a frame of
07:25honey out drop an empty frame in provide
07:28a little bit more space and use that
07:29feed frame and another hive that might
07:32be running a bit short you typically
07:34nukes so anyway that's kind of settled
07:37me down a little bit
07:40I haven't been back here for well we
07:43haven't been able to get back into this
07:45yard for two and a half weeks now might
07:47even be three weeks and I was thinking
07:49you know I gotta assess these guys to
07:51make sure they have enough stores just
07:53so I know what weight they are going in
07:55and according to my math everything is
07:57just the way I have planned it so rest
08:01assured I should be able to send
08:04carryout to do some top ups and I should
08:07be able to pack silage all day tomorrow
