Picking up Nucs, Heading to the Toronto Royal

00:00 - out picking beehives this morning we are 00:03 - moving hives inside no the a pre is 00:07 - nicely froze so we won't be getting well 00:10 - I won't say we're not going to get stuck 00:13 - but at least we can travel into the 00:15 - yards the ground is really firmed up 00:18 - we've had a hard freeze so in one way 00:22 - I'm cursing the fact that winter is 00:25 - coming as I've been cursing it for the 00:28 - last two weeks three weeks but this hard 00:33 - freeze is great because now we can 00:35 - travel we're not dealing with mud or 00:37 - ruts and I can get these hives pick them 00:41 - up and move them indoors 00:42 - the only challenge I'm gonna have now is 00:45 - that because these grass hives were 00:47 - sitting on wet ground they're going to 00:49 - be froze probably to the sod splush 00:53 - especially the yards that have been 00:59 - sitting in the same spot for the entire 01:00 - season they really get themselves work 01:02 - down into the soil so I'm anticipating 01:04 - we're gonna have to pry some of these up 01:06 - and just scrape the runners out 01:08 - underneath but as far as I'm considered 01:12 - that is just a detail these highs are in 01:15 - terrific shape they look fantastic the 01:17 - clusters these winter clusters are very 01:20 - well set up and their winter nest is 01:22 - very well defined so I'm extremely happy 01:25 - about that just putting a little bit 01:26 - extra work into moving these girls in is 01:28 - just just a detail as long as they don't 01:31 - get stuck 01:34 - so this weekend sandy and I are heading 01:36 - to Toronto to the Toronto Royal be maid 01:41 - has been given three spots on the Metro 01:44 - stage and that's a stage where producers 01:47 - come and talk about their local 01:48 - production specifically Ontario 01:52 - production but the Toronto Royal has 01:57 - invited be made to come and speak three 02:01 - times on this stage about our Canadian 02:03 - production so be made has asked me to co 02:07 - to go to the Toronto Royal just to speak 02:10 - of be made the organization and to 02:13 - profile by honey farm basically my 02:15 - presentations are to a non beekeeping 02:17 - crowd so nothing too technical but I'll 02:20 - be profiling or organization my honey 02:25 - farm and just just speaking about the 02:29 - benefits and their reasoning why I am 02:31 - it'd be made member so I'm quite excited 02:34 - about that it's more speaking 02:37 - engagements which I've been pretty keen 02:41 - on doing this last little while it's 02:44 - gonna be nice to get away from the farm 02:46 - for a little bit but we've got a 02:48 - boatload of work we got to do yet so 02:49 - we're leaving late today and coming back 02:52 - early Sunday and I'm just picking hives 02:55 - now this morning before I jump on the 03:00 - flight just feel productive for the day 03:03 - get some nukes moved in before I go and 03:06 - then when we get back on Sunday and I'll 03:08 - be straight into moving beehives into 03:11 - the winter shed I'll disappear on the 03:14 - farm for about a week not sure how long 03:16 - it's gonna take us to move in just 03:17 - depends on how frozen these colonies are 03:20 - to the ground 03:22 - I should only take us about four days to 03:25 - move all these hives in and say yeah I'm 03:29 - just gonna disappear for a little while 03:30 - the guys won't even know I'm around and 03:33 - get these hives moved in and then finish 03:36 - up this season for once and for all 03:38 - and then get back to the rest of the 03:39 - farm business 04:49 - [Music] 05:39 - [Music] 06:28 - [Music]
