Late Fall Treatment with Oxalic Acid - October 18 2019

00:00 - the Sun has made its appearance again so 00:01 - I've been able to shake the toque and 00:03 - put my hat back on so it's supposed to 00:06 - get up around 12 degrees today so 00:08 - hopefully that sheds this blanket it's 00:12 - the little watersheds and the 00:26 - countryside are full we've we're 00:28 - shedding more water right now and we 00:29 - have in the last two Springs it's quite 00:32 - it's good we're getting a little bit of 00:35 - recharge in the groundwater it's good 00:37 - for the pastures good for the dugouts 00:40 - all the aquifers and such we need we 00:43 - need this shot of moisture but it's 00:46 - coming at the wrong time I mean we got 00:47 - to get this crop off so hopefully we get 00:49 - a few nice days here shed this blanket 00:53 - maybe dry the ground up a bit so we can 00:55 - least travel I don't know either that or 00:58 - just get rid of the snow so at least 01:00 - for hive it's gonna be Kerry's job for 01:25 - the next few days we found ever since we 01:28 - started using oxalic it just seems to no 01:31 - side extra hammers like hitting those 01:32 - mites again with something completely 01:34 - different to treat the top of our in the 01:36 - spring and we found ever since we've 01:38 - been treating with oxalic vapor late in 01:41 - the fall that it's it's been helping 01:44 - maintain that effectiveness of the OP of 01:46 - our in the spring so I don't sure what's 01:48 - going on but we're just treating this 01:50 - late oxalic as a bit of a mop-up so yeah 01:54 - we're hitting the mites in two different 01:55 - mediums which is which is you know what 01:58 - we're supposed to do that's best 02:00 - management practices so I'll show you 02:01 - what Kerry doing here we're treating 02:04 - with the probe app 110 we like this 02:07 - little device it's a little bit slower 02:08 - but it administers exactly what we want 02:11 - we want two to three grams in per hive 02:14 - and it's ministering it precisely the 02:16 - temperature that we want so it's very 02:18 - controlled and because it's not it takes 02:21 - you know another twenty seconds your 02:22 - soul for hive but I mean this time of 02:25 - year you just keep working right so two 02:28 - or three days we should get through the 02:29 - whole a pre and then I got a start think 02:32 - our pastures are pushed down because 09:03 - that heavy wet snow that fell we can't 09:05 - keep these girls in and we haven't been 09:07 - able to make around and all the fence 09:09 - lines so they're finding the holes and 09:11 - they're getting out because they want 09:12 - home they're hungry these guys we found 09:14 - down the road we're just chasing them 09:17 - back to another pasture closer to home 09:21 - it's only half of them the other half is 09:27 - standing in the muskeg within that 09:29 - pasture so we're gonna have to go back 09:31 - and I guess we're just gonna do the same 09:32 - thing we're gonna pull them out and then 09:35 - walk them down the road just like we did 09:37 - these ones it's working quite well just 09:39 - kind of consolidate the cattle in this 09:41 - one pasture just to make it easier to 09:43 - manage so I'm just trying to get out of 09:48 - the way so they don't spook and they 09:51 - make this corner properly they've had a 09:58 - long walk you think it's been about ten 10:00 - miles we just walked him down the road 10:03 - pretty easy going that ditches are full 10:05 - of snow so it kind of keeps them on the 10:07 -
